Hitchin Test Lab Project
ETCS National Integration Facility Test Lab/ ERTMS
Project Overview
The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is the method by which traffic will be “signalled” in the future. The system is based on transmission of vital data over a GSM-R radio network, with “movement authorities” conveyed via an on-board computer to the train and its driver on a driver machine interface (DMI) in the cab.
In January 2013 WS Civil Engineering were awarded a contract to work alongside Signalling Solutions to project manage and construct all civil work required in the building and constructing of the European Control train System Test Lab facility at Hitchin. The project ran until July 2013 when handed back to Network Rail with no remedial works outstanding.
WS Civil Engineering undertook the following:
- Drainage/utilities installation
- All foundation works inclusive of DDA Ramps, Steps, walkways etc
- Construction of the car park and highway, including tarmac, Kerbing, Line marking, and drainage
- Fencing and handrails
The project value £900k
